Fallout 76’s Caravan Routes to Transform Multiplayer Experience in Upcoming Upda
Fallout 76 is set to undergo significant changes with the introduction of caravan routes, a feature aimed at transforming the game’s multiplayer experience. This update, part of the Milestone Zero content drop, was recently discussed by a senior Bethesda official.
Scheduled to debut after the conclusion of Fallout 76 Season 17 in September 2024, Milestone Zero will introduce various new content, including the ability for players to start and run their own caravan companies in Appalachia.
This new feature aims to enrich the in-game activities and change the game’s pacing. Fallout 76 Creative Director Jon Rush elaborated on this in a recent interview with PCGamesN, explaining that running a caravan company will provide players with engaging activities between Fallout 76 events. Currently, players focused on farming Treasury Notes or participating in community activities experience significant downtime if they aren’t constantly switching servers to find new world events.

“The caravanning keeps the action from going event, wait, event, wait, event; it just keeps it more snappy,” Rush explained. Besides managing their own caravan companies, players can also support others by joining escort missions. Successful missions will reward all participants, similar to existing world events. These quests typically last five to ten minutes, making them perfect for filling the gaps between events while still allowing cooperative play. Additionally, Bethesda has made caravan escort missions repeatable, enabling players to farm them solo or in groups.
Escort missions can be joined by anyone on the server but can only be initiated by players who complete a new Milestone Zero quest called “A Bump In The Road.” This questline, which unlocks at level 20, guides players through starting their own caravan companies. Caravan outposts will function as customizable instanced zones, similar to C.A.M.P.s.
Milestone Zero is currently available for preview on PC through the latest Fallout 76 Public Test Server update, launched on July 26. Progress from the PTS build won’t carry over to the stable channel, so beta testers will need to start anew when the update is officially released. Bethesda plans to launch Fallout 76 Season 18 and Milestone Zero in September 2024.
