Genshin Impact Introduces World Level 9 in Version 5.0 with Major Ascension Mate
Genshin Impact is set to introduce World Level 9 in Version 5.0, bringing a significant increase in the number of ascension materials dropped by bosses and other enemies. Since its launch, Genshin Impact’s progression system capped characters at Level 90, accounts at Adventure Rank 60, and World Levels at 8. Players have long speculated about potential expansions to this system, and the upcoming Natlan region suggests that such an expansion was considered.
While most sources indicate that there will be no increase in the character level cap, it was previously believed that HoYoverse planned a new Ascension Rank allowing characters to reach Level 100. This concept appears to have been scrapped, delayed, or misdirected. However, Genshin Impact is committed to changing the progression system by introducing World Level 9 in Version 5.0.

In addition to three new characters, Version 5.0 will bring numerous features and improvements, including streamlined bounties, an enhanced profile system, and customizable artifacts. The new World Level has particularly caught players’ attention. According to HomDGCat, players can expect a 50% increase in ascension materials at World Level 9. All world bosses will now drop three materials, with a low chance of dropping four, making character leveling less tedious.
Introducing World Level 9 is a relatively non-controversial change to the progression system, as players can roll back their World Level if the content is too challenging. Unlike a new Ascension Rank, which would increase the grind, the new World Level shortens the existing grind by offering more rewards for defeating tougher enemies.
To unlock World Level 9, players need to reach Adventure Rank 58. Defeating a Local Legend under the new difficulty will yield up to 24 ascension materials, and enemies with high drop rates will provide up to 10 ascension materials. This should make farming Handguards and Spectral Cores significantly easier. However, it remains to be seen how HoYoverse will balance new content around this increase.
