Villages and small towns now have an older population as the younger generation chooses to settle in metropolitan cities and towns for better job opportunities and lifestyles. In my opinion, it is not a good sign as cities are getting overpopulated and villages remain underdeveloped. In this essay, we are going to discuss the negative consequences of this movement.

Firstly, when people move to cities, it creates tremendous pressure on the city infrastructure, including housing, medical care, law and order, which means more people have to be managed by authorities, ending up inefficient in everything. Some cities like Mumbai often struggle to manage their local population. In addition to that, everything gets expensive in cities because of differences in demand and supply. For example, renting or purchasing a house in a city is very expensive compared to a small village with fewer people.

Secondly, the countryside will not attract new businesses or opportunities because it lacks new age people to work for them, which eventually means lesser jobs for the remaining people. Further, the government will also not get tax money from the businesses or people to do a development, which will add more misery for the people staying there. To illustrate this, compare the medical facilities, job opportunities, or even the infrastructure of any rural area with that of city to see the difference.

In conclusion, I would say that economy should start planning to develop rural areas so that people should stop migrating to cities, add incentives to the businesses to establish so that better future and life with new opportunities available for everyone.
