    Organizations are inclining towards open-space designs rather than separate rooms. Although, working in cubicles can accommodate a large number of employees and also, encourages efficient productivity, but it has certain drawbacks too. This essay will discuss the pros and cons of this particular concept

    Some of the advantages of working together in an open- space include emotional bonds between employees of various levels, where managers are approachable. Therefore, sitting adjacent to the seniors helps clear any doubts and promptly complete the daily task. Moreover, open-space designs also help in supervising the staff, which means the quality of work is not hampered and work ethics are followed diligently. For example, if the company deals with clients’ sensitive confidential information, managers can ensure there are no data breaches and malpractices followed on the floor.

    On the other hand, working in open areas has some major disadvantages like chaos in the workspace which leads to distraction and noise. Over a course of time, due to a lack of focus, there will be errors that can reduce the amount of work completed. Another drawback of this design is the lack of privacy, which disrupts the workflow and confidentiality of an associate. For example, employees engage in long personal conversations with the people around them during their prime hours at work, this causes a loss of time and delay in submitting the reports on time.

    To conclude, working in an open space set up has an extremely positive influence on the employees, specifically, in coordinating with their seniors and better utilization of manpower. I believe these benefits certainly outweigh the drawbacks.
