You are going on holiday for one week and your neighbour has agreed to take care of your house while you are away. Write a letter to your neighbour.

    In your letter

    – explain what you would like your neighbour to do while you are away

-tell him / her how to contact you if there is an emergency

    Hi Ragini,

How are you? First of all, I would like to thank you as you are ready to take care of my home in my absence.

As you know I have a dog named “Tomy”. I cannot take him with me because pets are prohibited in my hotel where I am going for one week. I had requested the hotel staff but they denied it. I want one favour of you that please feed and take care of him when I will not be here.

Although he is healthy and vaccinated, if in case he would not feel good for any reason, please let me inform that time, I will give you my contact number when I come to you to hand over my pet.

I want you to buy a gift for yourself on my behalf as a token of gratitude towards you.

Thank you so much for helping me out.

    Your neighbour,

    Swati

      * “I had requested the hotel staff but they denied it” [( I had made a request, but it was denied) would sound better ]

      * “if in case” is not correct. We do not use ‘if’ and ‘in case’ together. Either can be used depending on the context. The whole sentence was a bit confusing. I suggest looking up ‘conditional clauses’ to clarify the rules related to it.

“I’ll give you my number when I hand him over so that you can let me know if he doesn’t feel good” is how I would have written it.

    Dear Sam,

I hope you are fine and doing well. I am writing this letter to thank you for agreeing to look after my house during my business trip.

I am going on a two weeks trip to London. As you know, I am fond of plants and flowers so there are many in my garden. I request you please water my plants on a daily basis so that they grow and do not wither. Apart from that I am expecting a letter from my cousin this weekend, please collect it on my behalf.

In case of an emergency, you can call me anytime. Once I reach there, I will share my new contact number with you. If it is inaccessible, please let my friend know who is living just 5 minutes away from my hotel. I can also share his contact number with you.

I have no words to thank you for this help. Good neighbours like you are a blessing. Please buy a nice gift for yourself from my side as a token of appreciation.

    Your neighbour,

    Mamta

      * “Apart from that, I am expecting a letter”
      * ” from my side as a token of appreciation.” (I would have written “as a token of appreciation from my side ” or simply “as a token of appreciation”

Score: 5/6 Addressed the task fully. Error-free sentences.

      * “that you will be taking care of my home while I will be away”
      (while I am away…)

We use the simple present tense with some time expressions like ‘before, when, until etc. ‘

” I will give it to you when you give me the money” ( not ‘when you will give me..’)

“I won’t give it you until you give me the money” (not ‘until you will give me…’)

      * ‘for a business tour’ is not exactly wrong. But, ‘on a business tour’ is more commonly used.

      * ‘While I would be away’ (While I am away)

      * ‘feed him….with cold chicken’ (we don’t need any prepositions such as ‘with’ with ‘feed’. ‘feed him cold chicken’ is sufficient.

      * Last paragraph : a full stop seems missing after ‘care of my home’

      * Apart from these errors, the language was very natural and the tone was appropriate . The bullet points were developed very well. This is a well-written letter.

    Hi Sam,

Glad we were able to meet last weekend and had a great time outdoors before winter hits. I really appreciate you for offering support to take care of my pet while I am away.

As I have already informed you, I would be away for a week and need your help in feeding my dog with food and water every day. Additionally, I want you to pick up a package that would be delivered in two days.

Mostly, I will be reachable through my mobile number if in case it is not available you can reach out on my husband’s number. If there is any emergency or need immediate attention, please call my brother at 612-222-8888 who lives 5 miles from our community.

Thanks again for all the help and support as you always do. Once I am back from the trip, let’s plan to go shopping as I want to buy your desired gift as a token of appreciation from my end.

    Yours lovingly,

    Red

    Dear Shyam,

Thank you for agreeing to take care of my place while I am away.

Would you mind doing a couple of things for me during my stay outside? Could you feed my pet “Cherry” with timely food and frequently hydrate it owing to soaring temperature. Also, I would be thankful if you could also water the plants during morning and evening as they may wilt and ultimately die caused by dehydration.

Please feel free to contact me in case of any unforeseen circumstances either at my WhatsApp number or voice call me. Even if I can’t lift the call straightaway I will respond after I get your voice mail.

As a token of gratitude, I am overwhelmingly happy to surprise you with a gift. This gift also would be an exemplar of our friendship.

I hope you will have a wonderful stay at my home. I look forward to seeing you soon!

    Yours always,

    Hari Kiran
