The original Epic Mickey story follows Mickey Mouse on his adventures in the Wasteland, a realm of forgotten Disney characters. Mickey stumbles into Yen Sid’s workshop and accidentally creates a giant monster called the Blot using a magic paintbrush. In an attempt to fix his mistake, Mickey inadvertently makes things worse and is eventually abducted into the Wasteland. There, he must fight various monsters created by the Blot using the magic paintbrush, which wields both paint and paint thinner. While the core concepts remained in the final game, the newly uncovered pitch video reveals potential alternative directions for the story.

In the video, a voice—likely the Mad Doctor—narrates how Mickey battled the Phantom Blot as they fell into the Wasteland, emphasizing their need for Mickey’s ink to survive.
The pitch video also showcased how Mickey initially used paint as a weapon due to the Phantom Blot’s powers merging with his physiology. Unlike the final game, where Mickey wields a paintbrush, this version has him using ink from his own body. His abilities included surfing on ink, creating ink trampolines, gliding with ink parachutes, crafting ink-based weapons like a ray gun, and generating a massive tidal wave of ink at the expense of his stamina. The video concludes with Mickey freeing himself and spraying the screen with ink while the Mad Doctor warns Oswald to run.
Though bits and pieces of Epic Mickey’s original concept and pitch video have been shared before, this is the first complete version to be shared online, including voice acting.
