Nowadays some local languages are rarely seen anywhere. They became extinct in the world because people prefer to speak the international languages rather than their mother tongues. In this essay let us discuss on both advantages and disadvantages on local language being extinct.

To begin with, a language is not just a group of spoken words but it acts like a key to our culture and society. It was evolved over thousands of years. For example, few languages like Telugu andTamil have one of the wide range of vocabularies in the world and reflects the tradition of country culture and society. But in this current generation global language is considered to have more prominence than local language. For example in schools and colleges English language is considered as first language and then comes other languages.English is also considered as professional or global language which is being used everywhere in education and business as well. Since this being incorporated everywhere, it has become mandatory to learn global language.Adopting to Global language helps youngsters to build confidence and compete enormously with the pupils all over the world. Nowadays parents are insisting children and youngsters to speak global language like English , German at home also in-order to gain more grip over language reading and speaking skills.Hence getting adopted or learning global language over local language help pupils to compete all over the world.

However, there are also some drawbacks in getting adopted to these global languages. Mother tongue plays a vital role in child’s comprehensive development. Being fluent in the native language, benefits the child in numerous ways. It associates child to his culture, ensures enhanced development. The most distinctive disadvantage is that local languages connect people with the traditions and culture of nations. For example, folk songs in marriages, festivals and functions are generally sung in local languages. Therefore, the extinction of these languages results in adverse effects on the cultural heritage of the communities. Also it can impact the interaction with older generations.Generally people from older generation prefer to speak in mother tongue or native languages, but the younger generations are not keen on these languages. Consequently, it may reduce family interactions.Further youngsters are completely loosing grip on their native tongue because of excessive usage of global language everywhere. If this continues ,I believe after a decade or more there would be no surprise to see the percentage of volume speaking native language will get diminished or vanished.

In conclusion, the extinction of local languages, has the potential benefits and as well as drawbacks. In my opinion both the languages should be given equal importance to sustain better in both education and culture.
