With the other problems surrounding us, a massive increase in the world population has created a plethora of difficulties like creating food scarcity, where genetically engineered foods play a major role in combating this problem. This essay will talk about my arguments supporting the usage of genetically modified foods, and how this is better that the conventionally grown crops.
Genetically engineered foods bring along massive pros. First and foremost, it increases the agricultural production of a nation. For instance, there has been an enormous increase in the cultivation of crops in countries like India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh to name a few. This further has expanded their economies. The very fact that this technology has made ample number of provinces self-reliant cannot be ignored, as proof China is known for using the genetically modified foods and is no longer dependent on other countries for foodstuffs. Thirdly, these modified foods are evidently much more nutritious, hence a generous amount of population are using it while cooking.
Besides genetic engineering saves a lot of natural resources like water unlike the conventionally cultivated plants, which require a huge quantity of water to flourish. This applied science is budget as well as time friendly, hence these crops are thrived within a few months. For instance, a standard lemon takes 5 years to grow full, while a genetically modified lemon seed will take only four to seven months to grown. Various of these foods are also know to be used in vaccines and in certain medicines.
To conclude, I agree to the fact that GM foods are certainly a practical solution to the problem of food shortage due to population growth as it conserves the natural resources apart from delivering more nutrition. Not to forget that it has made so many countries self-reliant that has resulted in diminishing food scarcity scenarios around the globe. With the other problems surrounding us, a massive increase in the world population has created a plethora of difficulties like creating food scarcity, where genetically engineered foods play a major role in combating this problem.
