Posted by isha on April 27, 2022 at 11:03 AM

Many supermarkets are selling more and more products that are imported
from other countries instead of selling food that is locally sourced.
What are the reasons for this?
Is this a positive or negative development?

In the fast-paced world, the number of international products which are available for the citizens has become increasingly popular. Some establishments strive to maintain national items, but process is complex and hard due to the variety. Now the sea and air transport have allowed supermarkets to import from all over the world. Social media is one of the reason for supermarkets to sell international brands. Particularly youths having large demand for international brands .As a result an individual living in Bangalore can eat fruits made in other countries. If they like that product , then necessity of that product will increase.

This may effect the local farmers , local manufacturers as l producers must now compete with large companies. More over now a days these international brands coming up with huge discounts, So Consumers naturally buy the cheaper products and the result is that local farmers often cannot survive without government subsidies or must close their operations.

Many jobs depend on food exports and some less developed countries may even depend on this trade for economic survival. In spite of this, the importance of developing local trade should not be undervalued.

In conclusion – Government should support the local farmers to sell products and put marginal excise duties for the international arrivals. Hence both can sustain.

Nowadays, supermarkets are trying to sell numerous imported items from all over the world instead of selling the goods which were produced locally due to recent advancement in all means of transportation. The process of acquiring goods from other countries has become easy for the traders due to hassle free import and export policies. Though, it has got positive and negative effects in the market. In my point of you, it is a good news for those who are interested to buy things from foreign countries.

If, we think about the negative aspects for example, vegetables and fruits produced by the local farmers are not having demand because these imported items are available at cheaper price and the consumers are not ready pay more cost, when they are able to get the same for lesser amount. Secondly, people are more attracted to experience the new taste rather than having the same old palate. So, it has become a new trend to try different items from different countries.

When we think about the positive aspects, we are able to get some of the fruits and vegetables throughout the year irrespective of the season. For example, Indian Alphonsa mangoes are available in super markets of middle-east all over the year. In the same way, pears from South Africa, apples from Kashmir are easy to pick up and enjoy the delicacy instead of going to their native place. Not only the food items, even the electronic items are procured from different countries all around the world which can promote the sales as well as satisfy the customers for purchasing best products to have enjoyable experience.

I would like to conclude here that buying imported goods has given wide opportunity for the people to acquire best of the products all around the world.

These days supermarkets selling all those items which are majority of time imported from other nations rather supporting local sellers. Pricing and resources can be one of the few reasons for buying products from overseas. This essay will provide logical reasons and negative development of such activity and how it will affect our growing economy.

There are many reasons why walmarts are providing variety of products to customers because buying products from outside countries has become economical and they are providing those products which cant be produced in their own homeland. Firstly price plays an important role when it comes to imports, sellers will purchase those commodities which can be bought at low rates. In other words, businessman will sell those goods which have a profit margin as buying products at cheap prices can be sold at high prices. Secondly when goods are bought from overseas lack of resources is also one of the major reasons. For instance, sometimes there isn’t enough capital, equipment, land, or climatic conditions which are required to produce those items as a result sellers have to buy from other countries. Blueberries, avocado, raspberries are commonly imported items.

As a result selling commodities from other countries affects the economy of the country and affects local producers. In school, we have read about export and import. When the country’s trading is dependent on imports it shows the major portion of money is spent in other countries which to employment and development in those countries. Furthermore, it hampers the growth of local businessmen or producers.

In conclusion, the rise in imports has given consumers the opportunity to have a variety of items but has affected the economy of their own homeland. Thus, serious actions should be taken by the government by increasing taxes on imports and providing subsidies to local producers.

We are living in a global village. Peoples are more connected and roaming round the world, they are sharing food and culture predominantly with each other. Peoples love to experience variety of food in their life and market analyst knows this fact therefore in supermarket, trends of foreign food are increasing nowadays. I also think peoples want to add variety of food in their eating habits as well as I believe local food is also available in supermarket.
