The map describes the development of the village of Ryemouth between 1995 and the present. Overall, the village has witnessed changes like residential areas, hotels, and a tennis court.

In the year 1995, towards the northern part, the land is covered with farmlands and forest areas, the village had a road that divides the west side which is reserved for housing, to the east side which is the green land. The same road connects to the southern of the village which has all the shops, fish markets, cafés, and hotels that are built parallel to the south road.

At present, the village has experienced major changes like the number of houses has increased, the forest park has been converted into a tennis court and golf area, and in the southern part, we see the shops, fish markets, and fishing port have been eliminated and the area is now occupied by restaurants and apartments. The hotel has its own car parking built adjacent to it, while we see no changes in the cafeteria zone. It is observed a significant transformation in the village since 1995.

Organizations are inclining towards open-space designs rather than separate rooms. Although, working in cubicles can accommodate a large number of employees and also, encourages efficient productivity, but it has certain drawbacks too. This essay will discuss the pros and cons of this particular concept

Some of the advantages of working together in an open- space include emotional bonds between employees of various levels, where managers are approachable. Therefore, sitting adjacent to the seniors helps clear any doubts and promptly complete the daily task. Moreover, open-space designs also help in supervising the staff, which means the quality of work is not hampered and work ethics are followed diligently. For example, if the company deals with clients’ sensitive confidential information, managers can ensure there are no data breaches and malpractices followed on the floor.

On the other hand, working in open areas has some major disadvantages like chaos in the workspace which leads to distraction and noise. Over a course of time, due to a lack of focus, there will be errors that can reduce the amount of work completed. Another drawback of this design is the lack of privacy, which disrupts the workflow and confidentiality of an associate. For example, employees engage in long personal conversations with the people around them during their prime hours at work, this causes a loss of time and delay in submitting the reports on time.

To conclude, working in an open space set up has an extremely positive influence on the employees, specifically, in coordinating with their seniors and better utilization of manpower. I believe these benefits certainly outweigh the drawbacks.

The given line chart indicates a million tonnes of goods being transported in the UK through various channels namely road, water, rail and pipeline from 1974 to 2002.

It is clear that goods transported through roadways have shown an increase in trend over the period. Despite some fluctuation in tonnes of goods being sent through rail and waterways, there was a steady increase, which is continued till 2002. It is obvious that pipeline is the lowest among the 4 modes of transport.

In 1974, 70 million tonnes of goods were transported on road. This figure then shows a steady increase and reached a peak of just over 95 million tonnes in 2002. Waterways recorded the second largest with 65 million tonnes of goods during that period, with the only exception in 1974 when it had 38 million tonnes transported and overtook railways in 1978.

Additionally, the trends for railways in 1974 and 2002 were similar showing 40 million tonnes, although there was a slight fluctuation in the number of goods being transported between 1978 to 1988. Transportation via pipeline is the least which touched an all-time low in 1974 and hovers around 20 million tonnes from 1980 to 2002. All in all, Roadways are the most preferred mode of transportation within the given period of 28 years.
