In the modern era, people resort to going to malls and marts rather than choosing local businesses because of the plethora of options supermarkets offer, and hence it is argued that the local shops suffer at the expense of supermarket expansion because they fail to compete with them and this will eventually lead to the demise of local communities. But to what extent is the statement true? Let us dive deeper into this topic.

On the one hand, supermarkets are a one-stop shop for a variety of necessities whether it be groceries, personal care equipment or electronics. They often utilise prudent knowledge of psychology to lure people into buying more and hence fortifying their profits. For example, even if you end up buying only what you desired according to your shopping list but at the end, the sophisticated inclusion of chocolates and chewing gums around the billing counter would definitely tempt you.

On the other hand, local shops are meant for a restricted range of goods to cater to the needs of those who are living around the locality. Moreover, the employees are more friendly in nature hence you would end up liking the shopping experience for sure. Since the local businesses cannot compete with the flamboyant decorations and in-store experience of bigger marts, they sometimes let the neighbours buy cheap items on credit hence enhancing the customer satisfaction.

To conclude, though the supermarkets offer a variety of resources at one place, still local shops come in play when you have a shorter shopping list or are short in time. Hence, in my opinion, the local shops will still prevail even after the supermarkets increase because they still cater to specific needs which cannot be fulfilled by the latter.

September 13, 2021 at 9:08 PM in reply to: IELTS Essay Writing – International Sports Events

Nowadays, the number of international sports events in a country have increased drastically. It is often argued that the trend is positive but on the counterpart, some people demur the idea. This essay will examine both the views before making a final note.

On the bright side, the increase in number of inter-country events helps to bring international attention in addition to money. Although, hosting a big event requires a significant upfront investment, but the successful completion of it brings appreciation around the world. Additionally, foreign tourists spend money to watch the event while also relishing the country’s tradition and eventually adding to the country’s earnings. For example, a survey stated that international tourists account for about 30% reservations in any international sports event.

On the other hand, international sports events require an upfront investment not only to cater to the necessities of the event, but to also satisfy the need of people coming from abroad. In case if things go wrong, it can leave an impact on the image of the country which is the least desirable. For instance, an event managed irresponsibly has the tendency to stain the country’s image and moreover hamper the future foreign investments.

In conclusion, hosting an international sports event attracts tourists who help in bolstering the country’s image in addition to pouring money into the country’s economy. On the contrary, if the event doesn’t prosper as expected, then it has the capability to negatively impact the country’s image. But in my opinion, hosting an international sports event is irrefutably good to enhance the country’s image.

September 3, 2021 at 5:20 PM in reply to: IELTS Essay Writing (how to survive financially)

Today’s world demands a person to be financially educated, so tutors at schools should make students aware of the basics of money. I completely agree with this statement and think that relevant education in the subject is required to survive monetarily.

Firstly, schooling lays down the groundwork for one of the major aims of a person’s life, and that is financial stability. All the expertise and knowledge would account for nothing, if the person leads an insecure life and hence the skill of handling money should be inculcated since the beginning. For example, you can get your dream job by excelling in education but to grow stable, you need to know how to steer your funds in the right places such as investments and properties. So, learning the nitty-gritty of finance early in school, as a subject, is irrefutably a good option.

Secondly, numerous subjects taught in schools have little practical value. Science, maths and social science are theoretically appropriate but their practical implications aren’t that appealing as students can only apply them behind closed doors in offices or labs. Undoubtedly, that knowledge is needed to land a well-paying job but to multiply your money, the skill of financial education is crucial. For example, Warren Buffet started multiplying his pocket money through investments since he was a child and grew out to be one of the most successful investor.

To conclude, educating students about money in school is vital. The benefits of which they’d reap later on in life as they lead a stable and financially-sound life.

September 2, 2021 at 6:34 PM in reply to: IELTS Essay Writing (large number of gyms) Problem & Solution Essay

Even-though the number of gym facilities has increased drastically, still people resort to living a sedentary lifestyle. This essay will identify the major problems associated with it in addition to providing some solutions for the same.

The main problems linked with an inactive lifestyle include obesity and heart diseases. Firstly, Being a couch potato and wasting lots of time on electronic devices is notoriously famous but without regular exercising, an increase in weight will surely follow. One of the reasons behind this is that the lack of physical activity limits your metabolism, henceforth making the excess of carbohydrates and fats to accumulate in the body. Additionally, people have a chance to develop cardiac problems later on in life. The science behind this is that the deposition of cholesterol in your blood vessels makes them narrower which precipitates heart problems. For example, the prevalence of cardiovascular disease increases by two fold in an aged person who leads a lazy lifestyle.

A prospective solution to the former problem includes promotion of healthy living. Since, social media and Internet are the things which everyone comes across everyday, using the said instruments as tools to promote exercising apps is a potential option. Additionally, they even have an option to track your weight and set goals. Moreover, if a person fails to get time off of his or her busy schedule, changing minor habits like opting for a walk instead of driving a vehicle aids in preventing health issues in the future. Thus, promoting workout apps and resorting to more physical activity would counter the inactive lifestyle.

To conclude, sedentary lifestyle is associated with loads of problems such as obesity and heart diseases. The best solution for the problem is to increase physical activity by encouraging people through advertisements.

The given pie charts show the information about post-school qualifications held by Canadians in different age groups: 25 to 35 and 45 to 55.

Overall, degrees in social science and arts have been the dominant choice for both the classes followed by administration or engineering.

Firstly, social science and arts has been the major degree held by Canadians belonging to 25 to 35 and contributes to 20% of the total, while administration, science and maths follow the former. The least number of Canadians chose the stream of humanities, MBA and other degrees.

From a pool of 213,400 Canadians aged 45-55, about 20% hold the same degree as the previous group, but engineering was followed by a larger percentage of people belonging to this age in contrast to the former. In addition, MBA, humanities and other qualifications were still the least preferred option for both the categories.

The social media platform has become a prime place to squander time for everyone who is aware of the nitty-gritty of technology. The platform does aids in connecting people across the globe and to explore useful things like news but the toll it takes on a person is significant and not negligible. This essay will explore the pros and cons of the stated topic.

Firstly, looking at the bright side, social media helps us to connect with lives of our distant friends. Scrolling through the Instagram feed not only just tells about the person’s ongoing frivolous activities but can also be useful. Like subscribing or following news and information pages helps us to keep ourselves updated about the current advancements around the world. That means, knowledge about scientific advancements and social measures abroad can educate people so that they can implement the same in their country for betterment.

However, the inconspicuous harm that lies within the platform often goes unnoticed. As people like to follow different trends which are in heat on social media, copying a foreign trend can annihilate the value of home-grown traditions and cultures. For instance, Indian traditional dresses don’t appease much of the Indian population nowadays. Moreover, the addiction to social media has devastating effects on brain. Like it can shorten the time one remains focussed because of the constant ding-dongs of Facebook or Instagram. That implies that use of social media might be appealing but the drawbacks it offers are significantly more.

In conclusion, social media offers pros like unhindered connectivity to friends and family, and also easy access to current affairs but still imitating social media trends and becoming addicted to it can have a major impact on life. In my opinion the disadvantages of it outweigh the advantages.

August 11, 2021 at 3:04 PM in reply to: IELTS Essay Writing (Learning a Foreign Language)

Some experts share a belief that children should start learning a foreign language early in their primary school rather than delaying it for secondary education. Beginning to master a non-native language early surely offers many benefits but with some drawbacks on the counterpart also. This essay will examine the advantages and disadvantages of learning a foreign language in primary grade.

To begin with the advantages, a youngster who is taught foreign wordings in the primary years outpaces those who start late and speaks likes a native by the time higher education is finished. If children initiate learning early, they would master the basics of grammar by the time they step into higher schooling. Meanwhile secondary students are still fretting to get a hold on the basics; a primary grader who started learning before time would bother about the advanced level during those years. Moreover, the foreign language becomes deeply-rooted and natural sooner.

On the flipside, putting a pressure on young ones or limiting there play time would hinder childhood development. A child’s mind is already preoccupied with frivolous matters but they learn by exploring different things. On top of that, the addition of another task might seem like a burden to them, hindering their creativity and playtime. More importantly, the time devoted for studying academic subjects also suffers a loss making it difficult for them to understand academia in depth. Although the mind of a youngster is sharp, trying to teach them is still a difficult task for both parents and instructors.

In conclusion, the downsides of staying ahead of time and learning a foreign language early does pose some problems but they can be managed by proper planning of time. On the whole, I am convinced that if this task aligns with the interest of a child, then the pros outweigh the cons of the same.
