The table below emphasises on the surveys conducted in 2005, 2010 and 2015 regarding various services and aspects offered by McGill University.

In 2005, while students rated the library resources with 86% being the highest among all other services, range of modules offered by the university was rated 39% being the least to be rated in that year.Furthermore, in 2010 and 2015, it’s percentages diminished to 31% and 25% respectively. However ratings received for library resources remained fairly constant at 87% and 88% in 2015 and 2010 respectively.

Teaching quality dipped to 72% in 2010 when compared to 74% rated in 2005 but it gained a momentum and the rating increased to 78%.Sports and social facilities service did not show any improvement with numbers remaining constant at 65% during all the periods the survey was conducted.Nevertheless, the student services witnessed a drastic increase from 54% in 2005 to a steep jump to 80% in 2010 which further rose to 95% in 2015.

It can be observed from the statistics that sports and social facilities need to be ramped up and immediate brainstorming sessions need to be held to contemplate on improving the different modules offered by the university to attract more students in the future.

In today’s era with the advanced development in the modes of transportation and communication, it has given a plethora of opportunities for people to explore outside of one’s country and I perceive it to be more advantageous and beneficial although there could be few demerits as well.

People need human touch and comfort that one’s home provides for the individual cannot be matched to any experience because we are ultimately social beings. While we experience contact through a lot of internet enabled applications, we will still feel the necessity of being around our loved ones. However many applications mitigate this problem by providing high definition real time video calling experiences.

Subsequently, travelling to a new country is extremely beneficial for one’s holistic growth as it deepens the overall knowledge of an individual. This is enabled by easy modes of transport like air travel, underground trains connecting two or multiple countries along with wireless communications. The infrastructure is further being developed to hyper-loops aiming to reduce travel time by hours between countries and fibre optic cables increasing the internet speed by leaps and bounds. Modernisation and technological advancement also provides opportunity to people to explore their realm of space which in return improves the GDP of the country they reside in.It is also enables people to explore places known for their scenic beauty ,culture and historical traditions especially with the help of navigation applications which work based on satellite provided geo location points.

Although there are disadvantages of travelling and settling abroad, the advantages are more significant with respect to one’s lifestyle and future growth and it correlates perfectly with the freedom of moving into another country.

Crimes have increased to a great extent in the current day ranging from juvenile to massive cyber crimes. While certain section of people associate reduced number of crimes by increasing the criminal’s imprisonment whereas there are others who believe criminalist behaviour can be changed implementing different ways to combat it.In my opinion, we should adopt multiple ways to fight this concern which will eventually prevent further mishaps in occurring.

Kleptomania is seen in many people which is caused due to an underlying health issue. Most often, the person stealing neither has the intention nor is aware of the fact that he is going to steal. In such situations, punishments does not treat the issue but counselling and psychological medications enable them to lead a normal life.In most researches that have been done on criminal minds, it is found that childhood trauma is one of the major cause where extreme poverty and inhumanness faced by children right from their young age induces criminal thoughts to survive tough times.

Providing shelter homes and a job to sustain gives wrong doers a sense of wellbeing and this motivates them to refrain from doing crimes.Education plays a pivotal and a vital role as it makes one aware of the hazards crimes can cause to themselves and the society.Sometimes, it is also observed certain crimes are done to gain societal respect that was denied for various reasons.Hence, showing some respect changes their mentality towards crimes.

To summarise, punishment should not be adopted as the only way to surmount high criminal rates but finding different ways to fight this concern will help individuals and the society as whole in eradicating crimes. However, it is important to admit that criminals should pay a penance for their deeds.

June 15, 2021 at 10:38 AM in reply to: Prevention is better than cure-Opinion Essay Question

It is during the global pandemic that we resonate the importance of simple preventive measures over getting one hospitalised for treatment. This essay will elaborate the need for prevention in the medical field and the effects of the hazards caused when we relied solely on curing the disease before it erupted.

It is observed that after the coronavirus outbreak, wearing masks improved the health of citizens and this protected people from being susceptible to common flus and congestion but if we ponder about it, it was already being practised by certain countries and the ratio of them being hospitalised were way lower compared to the others not wearing masks. Washing hands diligently reduces the risk of contracting harmful germs thriving in your hands, again restricting ill effects occur in the body. We have a tendency to touch our palms over our face quite often and this is why sanitisation of hands acts like the first hand defence preventing germs from entering through our nose, eyes and mouth.

Small preventive measures when taken seriously can avoid one running in and out of hospitals to find cure and often cure is associated with a barrage of medical bills or incomparable losses of our dear ones.It also brings into light how ineffective our medical equipments or infrastructure turns out in dire situations. Spending finances over preventive measures can reduces such risk.

To conclude, although funds need to be allocated for prevention methods it is also important to invest in curing diseases as it is vital in the sustenance of life.Furthermore, it is important to expend money in the treatment of ailments as it is always not under one’s control to prevent all diseases that stumble one’s way.

Technology is changing so rapidly and people are glued to the technical assets they own including children devoting most of their time in front of computer games instead of basking in the sun and involving in outdoor activities.I strongly believe that playing outside is advantageous for a child’s development when compared to abysmal effects of being hooked all day playing computer games

What we do during our childhood days take us a long way in our old age because the way we train our body and mind when we are young help us tackle problems while we age.In this context, when youngsters get involved in outdoor activities, a massive amount of their energy is spent and this improves their metabolism eventually reducing the risk of developing health issues. They also start to binge on proteinaceous food their parents prepare as their energy is famished by the time they return home.Further more, it improves their stamina and provides nourishment for their physical development.

In addition to developing good physical health, the psychological wellbeing is also an important factor and children gain these benefits when they involve in team games. They understand the flavours of both success and failure which will help them to be complacent to any disturbing situation.Life skills are very important and most children attain them when they play with friends and teammates elevating their cooperation and adaptability skills.

In conclusion, outdoor activities holistically develop a child’s wellbeing.Nevertheless, it is important to strike a balance between playing outside and playing computer games considering the fast pace the world is changing and the malleability children possess.

While certain people claim that promotion of commodities lures one to purchase unnecessarily, whereas others talk about how beneficial it can be in improving lives and I can’t deny to agree with both viewpoints.

Advertisers are aware of the insatiable traits humans posses and they entice consumers using renowned actors and sportsmen who are undoubtedly followed by most people.Eventually, people procure such items to try out the brand promoted by their idol without contemplating the necessity of it.People do not care how contentious the product is as the mob mentality trick is being played very meticulously by the advertisers these days.To cite an example, during IPL the KIA cars were promoted avidly by a bunch of cricketers and the statistics showed how it was purchased in a barrage although a 7 seater car was the requirement of a two member nuclear family.

On the contrary, new products being projected by advertisers these days help people to adapt quickly from the unconventional ways of using items. It spreads awareness regarding traditional disruptive items and encourages people to shift to modern use of items.Changing over from plastic food boxes to to microwave safe glass containers has spread the awareness about the hazardous of cancer using plastics.

Therefore, I think that advertisements have both negative and positive impacts on the way people purchase and it is important they question themselves before purchasing any product.

Certain people assume that monetary funds being pumped into the field of arts by the government is unnecessary while some advocate that it should be utilised for other purposes but I agree to the fact that art like all other fields holds great value in a nation’s pride and money should be spend to conserve it.

It is important to allocate funds to protect a nation’s history and culture. While countries are known for it’s scenic beauty, it is also recognised for it’s rich historical heritage and this needs to be preserved for transpiring it through generations to come.Retaining and conserving our culture, art and history will develop a sense of national responsibility in our future generations.Art also lures travellers from different parts of the world to admire it’s mesmerising beauty which eventually contributes to the increase in tourism of that country improving the wealth status of the government.

Taj Mahal is a perfect example that depicts how art and culture elevates tourism where every year lakhs of people across the globe travel to see the marvellous monument.Just as the sight is a wonder, the history behind it , the emotions attached are all reasons why there are thriving travellers year after year.It is also observed that history is a prime subject taught globally in schools and colleges and the government puts in great efforts in the preservation of the country’s history to enhance the learnability of it’s students.

To conclude with, art, history and it’s culture forms the backbone of a country’s heritage and the government should disburse an allocated amount of fund for it’s preservation and protection.

The magnanimous increase in the world’s population today is posing a huge threat to our environment and it is increasing at an alarming rate. I strongly agree to the statement and believe that immediate measures need to be implemented to bring the situation under control.

It has been observed that the requirements of people today has increased in every space where it took years for households to own a car, today every house is working hard to afford another new car.The surge in automobiles has caused fuel consumption to shoot up drastically contributing to high CO2 emission levels lingering in the air.Rapid development and urbanisation is running at a fast pace these days where people are moving out of villages and settling down in cities to avail better facilities.

These days people are opting for a better standard of living and this forces an increased rate in the construction field where skyscrapers are continuously being being built whose foundation has to be sturdy for which earth movers are being used to excavate very deep into the ground causing all the ground water to dry up. Water being a natural resource is now being considered to be scarcely available and a few counties have officially declared water will have to be purchased from other counties.Trees known to be natural producers of oxygen are being cut down due to globalisation causing air contamination resulting in poor air quality index in most places today.Tremendous increase in deforestation is posing a threat to the soil quality and fertility that vegetation is becoming impossible.
