  • .Many people believe that as advertisements have become a regular part of our daily life, people do not matter about them anymore. I am of the opinion, meanwhile, that commercials are dramatically efficient in making us acquire whatever they want us to. In <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>this</div> essay, I will explain both standpoints.

On the one hand, the advertising industry has lately grown significantly and a lot of research is made continuously in <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>this</div> field. Every trait of publicity you read, listen, watch or see, has been previously planned thoroughly, namely, the colours used, time of the day it is on, the music it has or in which particular magazine it is shown. All these features, <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>consequently</div>, target the person on the other side and make him or her undoubtedly buy a certain product. <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>For instance</div>, commercials aimed for kids have colourful images and catchy songs, making them interested in that particular toy.

<div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>On the other hand</div>, we are becoming, thankfully, much more conscious of <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>this</div> power of persuasion and <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>therefore</div> we are building a shield to protect us from buying useless and nonsense stuff. Realizing that consumerism is everywhere, makes us think more conscientiously what to buy and when to buy it. <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>For example</div>, if someone has searched on the internet for a winter coat on Monday, on Tuesday, Google will show, at the side of the article you are reading, ads related to winter clothes. <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>Therefore</div>, being aware of <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>this</div>, makes us close these ads and keep on reading without paying attention to them.

In conclusion, we are becoming more and more aware of how powerful advertisements actually are and how to handle daily stimuli. <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>Nevertheless</div>, <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>this</div> industry is exponentially broadening and enhancing its strategies to increase consumerism and will continue to achieve <div class=”jsx-1879403401 root ” style=”box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; transition: all 300ms ease 0s; display: inline-block; position: relative; line-height: 19.2px; background: rgb(196, 237, 157);”>this</div> goal.

In today’s society, some parents are becoming increasingly permissive. They do not impose sufficient discipline on their children, and in some cases buy them too many things. However, that is not a good way to raise children and it will have negative impacts upon them in the future and this essay will explore these.

While it is understandable that parents want to give their children expensive toys and let them run freely in the streets, this is actually not really an appropriate method of parenting. In other words, Having too many toys encourages children to be materialistic and does not offer them the same change to develop social skills like sharing. Furthermore, when children have asked for the toys, it gives them a sense of entitlement and even power over their parents. For instance, giving children too much freedom, there are obviously many challenges in this world from which they need to face. Moreover, Children also need rules and boundaries to encourage them to develop into mature and responsible adults.

If parents insist on this permissive style of parenting, their children will grow up with very different values from those of stricter parents. Therefore, Children who were never forced to study will end up with poorer grades in school, and those who were given everything they wanted as children will expect everything to come easily as adults. For example,, they will lead difficult and disappointing lives, in contrast with what their parents hoped.

In conclusion, although it is tempting to give children whatever they want, parents ought to set rules and boundaries, and to be careful with how they reward children. If parents fail to impose a basic level of discipline, children may grow up with a poor attitude that will cause them and others to suffer

The pie charts compares online shopping in four retail sectors namely electronics & appliance, home furnishing, food & beverage and video games in Canada for 5 years.

Overall, online sales of electronics and appliance was highest in Canada in 2005 but in 2010, online sales of food & beverage and video games increased while the sales of electronics & appliances and home furnishing products decreased.

As is presented in pie chart, electronics and appliance products got the highest online sales in Canada and that was 35%. Second most online product category was home furnishing (25% of total online sales) while foods and beverage products made 22% of total online sales. In this year 18% sales volume went to video game category and that was least among the given four online product categories.

After five years, the sales of electronics and appliances reduced by 5% as it was in 2005 and food & beverage category was the highest selling online product category with a sales of 32% of total online sales in Canada. Online sale percentages for video games increased to 23% while the home furnishing product sales made 15% of total sales which was 10% less than that was in 2005.

October 3, 2021 at 8:23 PM in reply to: Task 2 : GM foods (agree/disagree)

One of the major concerns the world is currently facing is that of ensuring enough food for all people as the world population has been on the rise. It is considered by some that one feasible solution to this problem is utilising genetic modification technology in food production. I completely disagree with this idea for health and environmental reasons.

Firstly, genetically modified crops can be a threat to local ecosystems. Many crops are made more resistant to diseases, insects and severe weather conditions through genetic alteration, which could cause them to become stronger than most species in the area. As a result, the ecosystem could be thrown out of balance, leading to the loss of some local species. In Japan, for instance, genetically modified tomatoes spread to other areas through seed dispersal and deprive the natural plants of their habitat.

Secondly, the health impact of GM foods has still been unclear. Because genetic engineering is relatively a new area of research, its effect on the human body after consumption remains a cause for concern. For this reason, more rigorous research is required before we are able to rely on GM products on a larger scale. A good example of this is the corn produced using GM technology in France, which was proven to be carcinogenic by a number of studies.

To conclude , I disagree with the idea of using GM food as a viable solution to the issue of food shortage due to population growth unless its safety and environmental effects are tested thoroughly. It is crucial that we carefully consider the risks that might arise when utilising technology
