January 12, 2022 at 1:59 PM in reply to: Task2 : Blood sports

Bloodsports have been a huge point of debate and are subject to a lot of criticism ,especially from wildlife enthusiasts. These activities are immensely cruel and have been a major cause of animal atrocity in the modern world. I am a huge proponent of banning bloodsports and would be highlighting some of the reasons to supplement this case.

Bloodsports involve activities such as hunting, fishing, and dogfighting. Historically, these originated during the medieval times when traditional sports were not popular amongst the masses.
In today’s world ,these sports have been known to kill more than 1 million animals per year. Since these involve training animals rigorously, it is a necessity for them to be put under medications, to enhance performance during competitions. Moreover, most of these sports do not come under any regulation from any authority, causing widespread exploitation of animals. Wildlife conservationists believe that this has been a major cause of animal trafficking. In a report published by PETA, it was found that the world has lost about 40% of animal species ,that existed in the 20th century, with about 15% being birds, fishes, and dogs. Thus, it is pivotal that these sports are banned from modern society.

To conclude, It is clear that while these sports are a mere form of entertainment for some, it has been an unpunished crime that has been continuing for decades. Governments across the world should work , along with wildlife experts to ensure that these sports are abolished and animal lives are given equal emphasis as humans.

January 10, 2022 at 2:06 PM in reply to: Task 2 (Problem/solution essay) : Traffic congestion

A major problem faced by metropolitan cities around the world is the traffic congestion encountered by them ,on a daily basis. This can be accounted to an exponential rise in population, which in turn leads to more people opting for private vehicles and lack of proper city planning. Some solutions to curb this problem are by encouraging the use of public transport and better government initiatives.

In the last decade, we have seen an enormous rise in population numbers. More people has meant that there are more vehicle buyers, which has been a major reason for the problem of traffic congestion ,in cities around the world. Due to this reason, most countries in the world are struggling to offer better road infrastructure, as there is an ever-growing need, which is often difficult to fulfil. Moreover, Lack of city planning in most developed and developing economies has worsened this issue.

Betterment of public transport and establishment of government initiatives are pivotal in solving this problem. Ensuring public transport is affordable and connected has already shown phenomenal results in cities like London and Sydney, where traffic numbers has halved in the last 5 years. Government’s need to take stringent measures and initiatives ,like creating traffic free zones and only walking / areas ,around high streets. We have recently seen cities like Delhi and Beijing taking up the odd-even initiative, whereby only certain vehicles are allowed on the road, on a particular day.

To conclude, It is imperative to control the problem of traffic jams with innovative and stricter measures, keeping in mind the manifold issues it might cause to our future generations.

    Dear Mike,

Hope you had a great start to the year.

This is in regards to my interest in working from our head office in New York. Having been a part of Corpdoc, it has been my constant endeavour to work at the best of my abilities , irrespective of the environment that I come across. Like everyone else, I have spent the last couple of years working remotely due to the pandemic, which has made my daily routine severely monotonous. Moreover, since most of our team is based out of our head office, I see this as an opportunity to bond with peers and enhance my skills. I have already been a part of student exchange programs during my university days and throughly believe that embracing a new work culture is imperative in the overall growth of a professional.

It is my humble request that you grant me this opportunity ,to work from our headquarters for a period of 6 months. I can assure you that my productivity at work would remain paramount ,during this transitional and learning experience.

    Looking forward your response.

    Best regards,

December 30, 2021 at 3:44 PM in reply to: Task 2 : GM foods (agree/disagree)

There has been a notable increase in the global population in the last decade or so. Ever-growing population in turn also means huge demand for food, which is difficult to cater. Scientists and experts believe that genetically modified crops / foods offer a viable solution to this problem. I am a strong proponent for utilising genetically modified foods, to tackle the problem of starvation, especially in under-developed economies and would be highlighting some reasons for this choice.

GM foods are crops/ vegetables, whose DNA is genetically modified through genetic engineering. These are immune to external factors that affect the life of a crop like pests or other attacking organisms. Moreover, since these are genetically processed in laboratories, they have no dependency on weather, external environments for their growth. In a study by the WHO, it was formulated that every year about 20% of unnatural deaths ,around the globe occur due to hunger and malnourishment. With the introduction of GM foods, the world food production would increase at a rapid pace, solving the hunger crisis ,that is being experienced globally. Also, we can be certain that the shelf life of foods would be higher, leading to a substantial decrease in the food wastage numbers. With pesticides proven to be extremely harmful for the human body, it is imperative that governments across the world, move to GM alternatives which offer a fast producing and non-chemically treated, food consuming solution.

Some naysayers are of the opinion that these foods could pose a threat to the local farmers that depend on agriculture for their living. However, I throughly believe that the increase in the food demand is necessary to take steps in this direction and would eventually need both food options to co-exist.

To conclude, I hope we see a wider utilisation of GM foods and benefit from this wonder of genetic engineering , to eliminate the food supply and hunger problems, in the modern world.

    Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am one of the attendees of the cookery course that was conducted on 25th February 2021. As required, I would like to provide some valuable feedback on the same.

I would like highlight that it was one the better organised events that I have been a part of. The course structure is sufficiently comprehensive, ensuring that novice chefs like myself are kept engaged. I personally enjoyed the diverse cuisines that were included as a part of the course, ensuring that all the participants get a wholesome idea of how culinary skills work. I have even tried to experiment with the food preferences as suggested by our Course Co-ordinators and has gained me a lot of applaud , from friends and family.

A couple of things that I felt could be improved upon were including a more wider range of desert recipes and adding healthier alternatives options to the current cuisines. Also, It would be very helpful if the course can introduce an e-book for the food preparation details.
I hope this feedback is useful in designing and improving the program.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Kartik

  • In the last decade or so , we have seen an immense increase in the number of pupils being sent abroad for education. Numerous student exchange programs have become popular amongst children, who wish to gain an international exposure in their years of growth.

There are several advantages that are related to an experience abroad. Firstly, A stint abroad exposes children to a different culture, often pushing them out of their comfort zones. This is proven to aid in their overall personality development. For instance, whilst completing my masters in the UK, I came across people from various cultures, speaking different languages, leading to drastic change in my pre-conceived notions, about living with family for the rest of our lives.
A major impact that students especially from conservative thought process experience, is the immense independence that they witness. Students who have never indulged in part-time jobs often face a lot of issues to embrace the newer environment.

Since education abroad can be highly expensive, it can often put parents and children in huge financial burdens. Moreover, the uncertainty surrounding the immigration rules , could have a long-term impact on students and parents making this choice. Their is also a high possibility of children being sidetracked after witnessing a more open and accepting culture. We have seen numerous examples of immigrants who disassociate themselves from their country of origin and forgetting their roots.

To conclude, I thoroughly believe that parents should encourage children to immerse in different environments, whether it is through an education abroad or a student exchange program. But it is also important to set the correct expectations, before embarking on this journey.

December 15, 2021 at 3:56 PM in reply to: Task 2 : (discuss both views- Art )

It is often argued that the subject of art is pivotal in the overall development of a pupil. A lot of people also debate .that domains such as painting and design are an underutilisation of time , especially in today’s technology driven times. I am a firm believer of the opinion, that learning art is paramount to inculcate an innovative thought-process.

In the old times , sketching was one of the most sought after professions, around the globe. However, with changing times this has been replaced by monetarily driven occupations like Engineers, Medical professionals and so on. The under appreciation of art in today’s world is reflected in several professions where most individuals lack an “out of the box” or smarter approach to complete day to day tasks. We have seen also witnessed artists like Picasso being recognised several times for decades ,being one of the brightest human minds to have ever been born.

On the other hand, due to art being one of the most underpaid profiles in the world, it is always undermined by a huge chunk of human population. Although, it is true that the emphasis on art needs to be more balanced, it is also necessary to streamline this entire profession. This will not only ensure that we produce more artists ,but will also encourage a shift from the commonly sought after professions ,to follow this career path. We have often seen examples of painters needing to resort to various professions , due to financial implications that are caused in becoming an artist.

To conclude, I thoroughly believe that art needs to have an equal emphasis, even if it means children deviating to different professions in the future, as this skill is the foundation of all occupations that exist in today’s world.

December 13, 2021 at 5:00 PM in reply to: Agree/Disagree (Reward or Punishment)

It can be argued that children perform better at school ,when they are rewarded. Studies have shown that values inculcated in school, has a direct impact on a pupil’s mental well-being. I am a firm believer that recognition leads to an alleviation in child performance.

We have often seen that most students today, have an aimless approach to life. When they are rewarded ,it creates a feeling of achievement and entitlement, keeping them ready for the challenges that they might have to encounter in life. On the contrary, Harsh punishments has a ripple effect on a student’s development, leading to lack of confidence and self-belief. It is imperative that when students make mistakes, they are catered with constructive feedback. This may not lead to an immediate impact ,but cumulatively, causes an alleviation in their performance, academically and in extra curricular activities. I can recall my own scenario when I was recognised for winning the school Tennis championship. This accolade, ultimately boosted not only instilled my self-belief ,but also uplifted my self -esteem.

With Mental health illnesses now being more prevalent than ever, the need to commend and recognise achievements is more than before. Thus, It would not be wrong to advocate the abolishment of punishment in any form for children.

To conclude , punishments can seem a convenient way to induce discipline in a pupil ,however the ill-effects can be destructive in their growth. In my opinion, it is necessary that all educational institutes should adapt a reward-based learning approac.
