With the boom in Information Technology, there has been a debate that the art and music subjects should be removed from the syllabus and instead the computer subject should be given more weightage. But should this be done at the cost of removing art and music subjects? I disagree with the statement and will support my view with the help of the following paragraphs.

Firstly, if we take an example of today’s situation, we see that the Information Technology sector, what we commonly say IT sector, is one of the rapidly rising sectors and hence it will be no wrong to say that the schools should focus more on these subjects. But the subjects like art and music give insight into the country’s culture. If the cultural subjects are discarded, a person, for instance, may not be aware of what types of genres are being played in his/her country. Also, some of the talents will remain hidden when no art and music competition will take place in schools.

Secondly, there are many people who actually look at themselves as an artist or a musician in their future and cutting out these subjects will results in losing their interest in schools. Not only this, if attempts are made to exclude these subjects from the syllabus, students will be forced to focus on other areas that are in the curriculum which may not interest them and as a result, they may end up not going to school. Also, for some, these subjects are the form of escapism from studies as for instance, schools often organise art competitions to lighten the exams pressure on students.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that the music and art subjects should also be given equal weightage as the other subjects in every school and it should be the choice of a student to opt for the subject he/she is interested in.

The advent of supermarkets has attracted the population to such an extent that the small and local shops are not able to compete with them and as a result, many of them are now on the verge of closure. Will this lead to the end of local communities? Let us have a deeper look into this topic and in the end, I will provide my opinion on this.

Supermarkets, a large place where the foods and all the necessary household goods are being sold, are great for those who like shopping under one roof as it saves time and effort. On the other hand, for some people, these stores are the result of unnecessary expenses. For instance, if we are going for a grocery shopping from a supermarket, we are often tempted by other things like frozen food and therefore buy them without realising that if it is required or not.

On the contrary, the local shops are present at almost every corner of a street which provides ease of buying things at any point of time without travelling far. Also, grocery shops, for example, contain limited varieties of products and hence individuals buy the things which are needed. Not only this, there is the chance of better customer satisfaction as local communities are quite old in the society and know the need of the local people.

Undoubtedly, the past few years have shown the rapid development of these big stores but I don’t agree that this will result in the death of local communities as both types have their own benefits and drawbacks. However, I suggest that individuals should consider buying from the local communities as well because, for many people, these shops are the only source of their livelihood.

The jury, under British and Australian laws, is responsible for making the right decision against the person who is being confronted for a crime. Does the decision be made after taking into consideration the accused’s past criminal record? In my opinion, yes, and I will support my view with the help of the following paragraphs.

Indeed, Jury’s access to the defendant’s past criminal record will allow them to have a clear perspective. For instance, if the jury knows that a person, who is being accused of the theft, also has a past record of the same, the panel will contemplate before passing any verdict. Also, the old criminal records corroborate his/her crime. As a result, the chances of unbiased decisions increase. Not only this, if a culprit is aware that the jury has his/her old records, the person will be terrified before doing anything wrong.

On the other hand, if the panel is not provided with the old records, a criminal may be absolved in case of no proof as the jury will be making decisions on the basis of evidence only. This will protect the person and may motivate him/her to again do the crime. As a result, the jury will be responsible for making wrong decisions and hence it will question their integrity.

I would like to conclude by supporting the lawyers who are suggesting that the jury should be provided with all the past data of the accused as it is the responsibility of the panel to make the right decisions after looking at every aspect of the individual’s life.

Does it require traveling to gain knowledge about the other country when we can get information about every nation through TV and the internet? Well, that is quite debatable. Let us find out this in the following paragraphs.

First, traveling a foreign nation is not only a source of entertainment, but also it provides us a sight to view different cultures, traditions, language etc. Our desire to explore a new world and then compare their lifestyles with ours is fulfilled when we visit other parts of the globe. Furthermore, by meeting individuals of the other countries, we get to know about their mindset and also what they think about our country. For example, recently my trip to South Africa changed my thinking about that country’s people. I used to think that Africans are not welcoming but actually, they were very helpful and friendly.

Next, visiting abroad does comes with a lot of expenditure. Moreover, traveling to some countries like the USA requires many visa formalities, which can be frustrating for some people. Also, language and food sometimes become challenging while staying in a foreign nation. For example, it is hard to find vegetarian food in some parts of Thailand. Also, many people do not understand English there. Getting information through TV and the internet becomes the only option for some people as it saves a lot of money and time.

Travelling has become a passion for several people around the world. In my opinion, if you want to explore a country and you have sufficient funds with you then the ideal approach is to visit it.

    Hi Steffi,

Hope this letter finds you well. I had a wonderful stay at your place last weekend.

Firstly, thank you for inviting me to stay at your home and it was a very pleasant visit. I had a gala time with your family as they are very welcoming and the food was relishing. I actually did the things like playing cards, which I used to do in my childhood days.

After coming home I realised that in excitement, I have left my watch in your bedroom on the study table. The watch is a mechanical one with a big round dial and red strap. At the back of the watch, the brand name is written which is Casio.

I would be grateful if you could keep it safely in a box with you to avoid any scratches. I will be sending my brother tomorrow to your house and please hand over that box to him.

    Thank you once again.

    Best Wishes,

    Tanya

  • Some people consider the international sporting events as an unnecessary expenditure while I personally believe that these occasions give opportunities to showcase your talents. I will support my opinion with instances in the following paragraphs.

For the past few decades, International sporting events like Olympics, Cricket World Cup etc have gained immense popularity not only amongst the players but also among the audience. These events provide platforms for the sports persons to present their talent in front of the whole world. In addition, the awards are given to the winner that keeps them motivated and also arises the feeling of patriotism in the audience. For example, it was a proud moment for Indians to have their first athlete, Neeraj Chopra, to win the gold medal in Olympics 2021.

On the contrary, If there will be no such programs then there can be boredom in many players’ life as they only have to compete with their country’s people and also their talent will be restricted to their nation only. Also, how are we going to rank the countries across the globe in the terms of sports they play at their best. Just like dancers and musicians, sportsman also wants to be recognized globally. Moreover, these events contribute greatly to countries’ economies as sectors like travel and tourism are benefiting from these programs.

To conclude with, it is essential to have International events for sports as they bring more challenges in a sportsman life which and keep their spirits high in order to compete with the whole world. These occasions also keep the audience engaged and it is worth spending some money if our nation can be recognised globally.

    Hi Mary,

I am writing to your letter of last weekend on facing the harassment from your manager. I had faced a similar issue and will guide you on the possible measure you can take.

I can understand your problem of repeatedly getting abused by your boss for committing mistakes and I would request you to remain calm and not do anything out of anger as you can face serious consequences.

Something similar happened with me in my first job. My team leader not only used to harass me for my flaws but also never praised me for my work. As a result, I have to resign from that job in 2 months and faced a lot of problems in finding a new one as my experience was not counted.

I would suggest you not to repeat what I did and deal with the problem smartly. Next time, whenever your boss says something wrong to you, just record it and mail it to your superior bosses. You can even collect testimonials from other colleagues and post them on social networking sites.

Hope these solutions work for you.

    Yours truly,

August 24, 2021 at 11:47 PM in reply to: Task 2 – Opinion – [Immigration]

Immigration has become a trend rather than a necessity in today’s era. In order to survive in a new country, one either has to adopt their culture or form a small community there. Let’s look over the two approaches with viable examples.

Immigration looks very simple but actually, it requires a lot of adaptations to the new culture. For example, in India, people celebrate several festivals with family, neighbors and friends but some countries like Canada and the USA celebrate only two occasions in a year which are Christmas and Thanksgiving. To gel up with the people of other countries, we have to accept their traditions and lifestyles. Not only this, we have to learn their language of communication like people in France mostly communicate in French and this may become challenging for some individuals.

On the other hand, some migrating people end setting up a community of people of their own kind. For example, Indian Punjabi people have made their own community and live life as they used to in their hometown. Moreover, this encourages more Punjabi people to settle in Canada as they don’t feel homesick. The concept of establishing the minority community not only helps the people to adjust quickly but also new immigrants can get support very easily in case of any emergency. However, the members sometimes create unnecessary problems by standing against the government’s decisions.

I personally believe that acquiring the culture of the new country is a good option as it makes us part of that country. We should enjoy the challenges we will be facing in accepting the new lifestyles as this will bring out the better person in us.

Undoubtedly the past few years have shown a big advancement in the tourism sector, which has gradually resulted in English becoming the most important language. Does that really mean that English may become the only language spoken in the world? Let us have a look over the pros and cons people may have when having one language in the world.

If there will be only one language then all people will be focused on learning that one language and there will be no inferiority complex in people when communicating with other countries people like some people nowadays have when they are not able to speak properly in English. In fact, it can result in more of the tourist visiting other countries and hence more revenue. Furthermore, there will be less discrimination amongst people, for instance, English-speaking students sometimes bully students who are not able to speak in English.

On the contrary, having a universal language means that there will be no local language that depicts the culture of every country. For instance, India is known as a diverse country because it is the land of many tongues. Hundreds of languages are spoken here which shows people’s identities we are able to figure out from where a person belongs by his/her language. Having one language will have an adverse effect on the countries’ diverse cultures. Not only this, there will be a full stop on people’s urge of learning more language.

English is the most prominent language as it is the only language that is widely accepted across the globe. In conclusion, regardless of the many benefits society will have from having a universal language, the concept is debatable as the drawbacks also cannot be ignored.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding the wrong information present in the “Kashmir Travel and Tourism” article of the international travel magazine July edition.

In the article, it was mentioned that all parts of the Kashmir are accessible to the tourist in the month of December and January by car, which is actually incorrect. Rather, places like Gulmarg can’t be approached by car because of the heavy snowfall and one has to hire a horse to reach there.

Thousands of tourists visit Kashmir during the winter season. Therefore, misleading them with the wrong information will not only spoil their trip and plans but also can have a negative effect on your brand reputation. Hence, it is advisable to give the correct information.

Since your travel articles are almost being read by half of the population, I would suggest you to apologize in your next edition and reprint the article with the correct information so that the tourists can have the right information before visiting my town.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Mary,

I am writing this letter to express my happiness on receiving the present you gave me on my birthday.

I would first like to thank you for the watch you gave me as it is very pleasing with lots of captivating features. I always had a fascination with this brand and the best thing I like about it is its color as it will go with every outfit.

I was fortunate to receive many gifts on my birthday like a wallet, mobile case, makeup kit etc. One of my friends gave me headphone which is also very special as I was thinking to buy it from so many days.

It was one of the best birthdays I ever had. I started the day by dressing up at my best and then went shopping with my family. In the evening, all my friends took me to a karaoke restaurant for a surprise party and I did a lot of singing and dancing there.

Hope to meet you soon again.

August 23, 2021 at 8:11 PM in reply to: IELTS Essay Writing – 4 (Crimes)

It is believed by some people that if long punishments are given to the criminals then crime will be reduced. Does that really happen? Others think that there can be other better ways to bring down the crime but what are those ways? Let us have a look at both approaches.

Indeed, hard punishments, given to the lawbreaker, results in a panic feeling in other people who are involved in some crime. For instance, people, who are being charged with not paying income tax, terrifies the other people who are doing the same thing. As a consequence, some people gradually start paying the income tax regularly. Moreover, some people, after completing their long period in prison, values their life more than before. But is the long sentences actually decreasing the number of crimes?

Rather than always giving long imprisonment, efforts are being made to look over the reason of the crime. For example, many people end up doing the robbery because of the financial crunch their family is going through. Therefore, if we know the reason for the crime by doing the counseling of the criminals then steps can be taken to eliminate that reason. Hence, there are chances of lowering down the count of crime in a country.

I personally believe measures taken for the culprit depend on the crime he/she did. For example, we cannot just depend on the counseling for the rapist, rather serious punishment should be given to him. I feel that both opinions are correct and will help in reducing crime unless it is taken care that both the approaches are followed in a strict manner.

    Dear Marry,

Hope you are doing well. I had a wonderful stay with you and I wish to inform you that I have forgotten an envelope with essential documents in your room.

I would like to thank you for the 15 days stay at your place as otherwise, it would have been difficult for me to stay in Australia. It was an amazing stay and I will cherish it forever.

It is a red color envelope and you will find it in the corner wardrobe where all my luggage was placed. After my conference on that last day, I have kept that envelop on the topmost shelf and therefore may have forgotten it.

It would be great if you can seal that envelop and courier it on a priority basis as it contains all my conference-related documents which I have to present to my boss.

    Thank you in advance.

I am not sure about the contact number I will be using there but I will be calling you from my hotel once I have reached there. You can also reach me out at tanyagupta@mail.com. I hope, you will not have to face any problem in contacting me.

Oliver is a well disciplined dog and you have to feed him twice a day with one bowl of pedigree which is kept in his room. Make sure that his water bowl is always filled and he needs a walk after both the feeds for pooping and peeing. Rest he manages on his own.

Apart from this, you are required to mop the floors once in 3 days as oliver has huge hairfall problem. Milkman comes at 6 pm and if you are not available at that time, you may not get milk till the next evening. Keep all the doors locked for the safety reasons and do not let anyone to enter the house.

Due to the COVID pandemic, we have developed a habit of doing things online, whether it is learning through virtual classes or reading books and newspapers through E books. I totally agree that E books can replace newspapers and magazines very soon.

Its been one and a half year we are doing things online and are getting comfortable in it. For example, few months back, we were not even able to imagine doing school online and now even the exams are being taken online. Electronic form of reading is a convenient way of knowing about the world as everything is on your fingertips. Moreover, we have access to all kind of information that we want to know with E books.

I personally believe that newspapers and magazines are the unconventional ways of reading and are not going to last for very long. Certainly, these means require lots of paper and in turn lots of deforestation is done which is affecting our environment. In addition to this, it is difficult to collect all the old newspapers and magazines. For example, if we want to read any old article, we have to search for that particular day newspaper which indeed becomes difficult.

In conclusion, those days are not very far when the electronic ways of doing things like reading through E books will replace traditional newspapers and magazines. Undoubtedly, E books have more advantage over the paper based reading and we should try to spread the message of having paper less environment by supporting electronic means of reading.

There has been an endless debate that people living in the city have more perks in comparison with those living in the countryside. I strongly agree with this and can justify this with some facts and examples in the following paragraphs.

Undoubtedly, people living in the city enjoy the benefits of the latest development in various fields like schools, hospitals, coaching institutions and even in buying the daily essentials. For example, there are various apps that can deliver all the necessary items like groceries, vegetables etc at your doorsteps. In addition to this, hospitals in the city have all the latest medical equipment which are nowadays required in the diagnosis of diseases. There are coaching institutions for every competition exam and also massive job opportunities are present in the urban areas.

On the contrary, some of the rural areas do not even have senior secondary schools. Furthermore, people have to run out of their areas for some medical treatments as hospitals in their areas do not have the latest technologies. For example, daily we are hearing that many human beings in the countryside are dying because of the non-availability of hospital beds and oxygen cylinders during the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic. Also, the benefits like easy access to the airports and entertainments sources like shopping malls, cinema theatres, restaurants etc are missing in rural areas.

In conclusion, for majority kind of luxury, entertainment and latest advancements, countryside people have to rush out of their home place and urban people have easy access to these commodities. In my opinion, city life is more enjoyable than life in the countryside.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to inform you that I have lost my jacket after watching the evening show of the movie King Kong at 6:30 pm at your cinema.

My jacket was handmade with hemp and therefore it was rough and distinctive. It was of blue color and had flowers embroidery on the sleeves. Since my all jackets have initials, there must be a letter ‘T’ on the inner side of the only packet it has.

I ordered the tickets online and reached the cinema at 6 pm. I just double-checked to confirm that my
friend and I were seated in row K and the seat number were 12 and 13. We were seated near the center of the cinema and there was no one else in our row except us.

It would be of great help if you can check under the chairs in the cinema and in your
lost and found section. If you are able to find my jacket, kindly give
me a phone call at 781-334-5054 and I come to pick it up. If it is
more convenient, you can also courier it to the address on this

Kindly let me know if you require any further assistance.

Humans are often tempted with a barrage of advertisements that they daily see on televisions, in newspapers and even on social media. Indeed, some advertisements give us knowledge about the new products coming in the market, it is quite contentious that whether it has a positive or negative effect on the audience. In my belief, many a time, advertisements entice people and encourage them to buy products that are not required.

Advertising agencies aim on promoting their products even by giving false commitments and that is very disruptive. It is due to this reason, sometimes people end up buying products that are deceptive and not required. Furthermore, it increases their urge to buy things that are off-limit.

Undoubtedly, advertisements are meant to procure their products and services by showing their gripping features and uses. As a consequence of this, people’s insatiable greed arises and they waste their hard-earned money on those things that they do not need. On the contrary, every individual should perform all kind of researches before buying any product on seeing advertisements.

In conclusion, everyone should be meticulous while buying things on the basis of what they are seeing through advertisements as it is easy to spend but difficult to earn. Although it is because of advertisement that we are able to compare products of various brands, I still believe that every person should first plan of what they actually require and then look for their features and uses rather than going with the advertisments.
